Environmental Response
Zero Waste is a holistic approach to tackling the problem of unsustainable resource flows. Zero Waste comprises waste eliminated at the source through product design and producer accountability, and waste reduction measures further down the supply chain such as recycling, reusing and composting. Also, Zero waste is a broad concept to resource management that emphasizes reducing, reusing, and recycling. In order for recycling to be effective for everyone, we must purchase goods manufactured from the recycled materials. This decreases the need to employ non-renewable resources by reusing materials that have already been utilized.
Living a zero-waste lifestyle promotes employment growth and the economy. Through reducing, reusing, and recycling, "zero waste creates 10 times more jobs than through trash disposal," on average. Businesses that provide rentals, repairs, reuse, and sharing generate more jobs. In order to reduce the amount of waste created, eliminate toxicity in the resulting trash, and save and recover resources, goods and processes must be carefully designed and managed.
